KUALA LUMPUR, 18 SEPTEMBER (SK) - Perdana Menteri, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi menunjukan ketakutan beliau terhadap ahli-ahli Parlimen berikutan keengganan beliau mengadakan sidang tegempar Parlimen pada 23 September ini seperti yang diminta Ketua Umum, Anwar Ibrahim.
Mengulas mengenai hal ini, Ketua Penerangan KeADILan Tian Chua menyifatkan Abdullah sebagai penakut untuk berdepan kenyataan dan hanya berani untuk menafikan.
Abdullah menunjukan sifat penakutnya untuk berdepan kenyataan.kalau Abdullah tidak percaya tentang jumlah Ahli Parlimen yang kami ada, beliau sepatutnya berani adakan sidang tergempar,kata Tian Chua.
Petang tadi, Ahli Parlimen Sungai Petani, telah mewakili Pakatan Rakyat untuk mengutuskan surat kepada Abdullah Badawi bagi mengadakan sidang Parlimen tergempar bagi membolehkan usul undi tidak percaya terhadap Perdana Menteri dijalankan.
Walaubagaimanapun, dalam sidang media selepas mesyuarat Majlis Tertinggi Umno, Abdullah berkata tidak ada keperluan untuk adakan sidang tergempar.
Saya tidak lihat apa perlunya untuk memanggil sidang khas di Parlimen,kata Abdullah di Menara Dato Onn petang tadi.
Sebelum itu, Anwar dalam sidang medianya menuntut agar sidang khas diadakan atau beliau akan memilih jalan lain bagi memastikan peralihan kuasa kepada Pakatan Rakyat.
Jika permintaan tersebut ditolak, kami pemimpin Pakatan akan berbincang segera untuk mengambil pilihan lain, katanya di Ibu Pejabat KeADILan di Petaling Jaya.
Katanya, sekiranya Abdullah tidak percaya dengan jumlah Ahli Parlimen, beliau mencabar Perdana Menteri diadakan sidang tergempar dan menurutnya lagi, majoriti ahli Parlimen sudah bersama Pakatan Rakyat

Friday, Sept 19, 2008: DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was released at 1pm today, after being held under the Internal Security Act for a week, revealed her lawyer Sankara Nair.

At press time, she was at the Jalan Travers police station waiting for her release documents to be processed, he told Malaysiakini.
Kok walked out from the police station at 1.40pm along with Sankara and her personal aide, Mandy Ooi.
She will be holding a press conference at 3.30pm at the DAP headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

A habeas corpus application has been filed by Selangor exco Teresa Koks legal team today at the Kuala Lumpur High Court - seeking to overturn her detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
An affidavit by her father Kok Tim Tong, was the basis for the lawyers to act on behalf of the Seputeh MP.

Human Rights Commission of Malaysia's N Siva Subramaniam today hit out at the police and immigration department for the detention of Malaysian M Rajeswari for a total of 11 months -- 2 months in Kajang prison and a further 9 months in Lenggeng detention centre. When she was detained, she was pregnant and gave birth to son, Logekali at the detention centre.
Her crime: She could not produce her identity card, nor could she remember the number.
Her detention would have gone undiscovered if not for the Malaysian Indian Youth Council who took pains to prove that M Rajeswari was indeed Malaysian.

During the 1990s, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and a group of U.S. Senators organized a forum to exchange views among East Asians and Americans. Asked at one session about the role of Islam in politics, Anwar replied, "I have no use for governments which call themselves Islamic and then deny basic rights to half their population."
This devout Muslim leader was an impressive and eloquent advocate of tolerance, democracy and human rights. So we were shocked by his arrest and trial in 1998 on charges of corruption and sodomy. I felt his real "crime" had been to challenge Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, whose impressive record will be forever stained by his treatment of Anwar. I joined Senator Sam Nunn and others to speak out in Anwar's defense. When he was finally released from prison in 2004, U.S. policy on Iraq was unpopular in Malaysia, and Anwar was harshly critical. It would have been easy for him to disown our friendship, but he is not that kind of person. He kept the channels of dialogue open, even while making clear our disagreements.
Anwar, 60, is back in the center of Malaysian politics. The coalition led by his wife Wan Azizah has become the main opposition bloc. His future role can be determined only by Malaysians. One can hope that they will embrace his brand of tolerance, valuing dialogue across political differences, and that this courageous leader will continue to play a leading role on the world stage.
